You are a "Runner", a messenger traveling between the few still-standing cities of the wastes. You will explore the land, hex by hex, to deliver the packages you carry. But be careful: your resources are scarce, and danger is plenty in this vast wasteland.
Runner of the Wastelands is a solo-journaling resource-management TTRPG where you explore the wastes using a hex-map and miniatures on a hex-combat grid to resolve encounters. Every time you venture into the wastes to fulfill one of your courier jobs, creatures and enemies can stand between you and your destination. Run away, or face them; that's your choice.
The core mechanic: The game loop is driven entirely by your daily Energy (E), determined at the start of each morning. This mechanic also sets a clear time constraint; it naturally defines a day through the number of things you can do before needing to go to sleep, since every action costs 1E. A poor roll forces you to carefully manage your effort and, on the worst days, to face the brutal reality that you have enough energy to do only a few things.
An evolving game: Built alongside its community, the game expands with every $20 or 20 reviews it receives, funding new mechanics and modular resources. This continuous support has already resulted in multiple "Print & Fold" zine expansions, including a custom 2d12 oracle, a layered "Hex Grid" system for sub-hex exploration and looting, prestige rankings that dictate job payouts, and custom handler mechanics. Let's do more together!
